By offering the Margrave of Brandenburg the six concertos that would later be named after their dedicatee, Johann Sebastian Bach presented a collection of magnificent variety in both instrumentation and style. Featuring virtually every instrument in the Baroque orchestra in the solo parts, the music of these concertos is among the composer's most radiant, written in Köthen during a happy period of his life.
