Chapelle réformée du Bouclier

From the early 17th century, the influence of Italian music was growing in the French capital, much to the chagrin of the ardent defenders of French taste, including Jean-Philippe Rameau, who clashed with Jean-Jacques Rousseau in the famous Querelle des bouffons.

À propos de l'événement

In this quarrel, supporters of the former proclaimed their love of the French keyboard, of court music and, more generally, of art music, and challenged the popular and essentially melodic pretensions of the violin and cello. Between the two camps, composers with more ambivalent influences, such as Leclair and Francoeur, attempted to achieve a synthesis of styles, like François Couperin before them.

Over the course of an evening, where harmonic refinement and melodic abundance intertwine, let yourself be seduced by the tastes brought together!

Program:

Jean-Marie Leclair :Deuxième Récréation de musique opus 8 in G minor

François Francoeur: Sonate en trio for violin, viola da gamba and b.c. in E major

Claude Balbastre: Suite de Pigmalion

Louis Gabriel Guillemain: Quartet Sonata Op. 12 No. 3 in D minor
